KIN

KIN is a free virtual-pet game that runs in a web browser, including Safari on iPhone and iPad. A tiny, original creature hatches from a cocoon with no signup and lives in a small diorama that follows your real time of day, sun angle, temperature, wind, rain and snow. You can pet, feed, bathe, brush and play fetch with it, and it keeps a memory book on the device. Put two phones or tablets side by side and slide one finger from one screen onto the other to link them with no QR code, and your KIN hops onto your friend's screen. Native iPhone and iPad builds exist for TestFlight testing; KIN is not on the App Store. It is made by Mutaaf Aziz.

Questions

Is KIN free?
Yes. It is free in a web browser, with no account and no signup.
Does it work on iPhone and iPad?
Yes, in Safari and other browsers. Native iPhone and iPad builds exist for TestFlight testing, but KIN is not on the App Store.
How do I send my KIN to a friend's screen?
Open KIN on both devices, put them side by side and slide one finger off one screen onto the other. That links them with no QR code, and your KIN can then hop across. Two browser windows on one computer work too.
Does KIN collect data or use my location?
There is no account, and your KIN and its memory book are kept on the device. Location starts coarse, from your timezone, with no permission prompt; precise location is opt-in and rounded to about 11 km before it is used to look up the weather.
Are there ads in KIN?
No ads in the app, over the creature or in the iPhone/iPad build. The only ad slot is one child-directed banner at the foot of the web landing page (/kin/about/), limited to kid-safe sponsors that never click out.
Is KIN safe for kids?
KIN has no chat, no accounts and no in-app purchases, and linking only happens when someone makes the swipe gesture between two screens.
How do I play KIN?
Open mutaafaziz.com/kin/ in a web browser and your KIN hatches from a cocoon, with no signup. You can pet, feed, bathe and brush it, play throw-and-fetch, tuck it in, tend a garden, and earn tricks and collectibles. Its little world follows your real time of day, sun, temperature, wind, rain and snow.
Do I need an account for KIN?
No. There is no account or signup, and your KIN and its memory book are kept on the device.
Does KIN use real weather?
Yes. Its little world follows your actual time of day, sun angle, temperature, wind, rain and snow, from a coarse location by default; precise location is opt-in and rounded to about 11 km.
