Chalk Talk
Chalk Talk is a free web app for youth coaches: you say a play out loud, or sketch it, and it draws and animates the play in light. It covers basketball, flag football (5v5 and 7v7) and youth soccer (7v7 and 9v9). It has a concept library for each sport with kid-friendly explanations, and football tools including the route tree, Man and Cover 1 to 4 coverages, and the quarterback's reads. An AI can clean up a sketch, name the concept and suggest improvements; a free AI is included within daily limits, or coaches can bring their own Claude or OpenAI key, which stays in the browser. It is open source (MIT) and made by Mutaaf Aziz.

Questions
- Is Chalk Talk free?
- Yes. It is free in a web browser with no signup. A free AI is included within daily limits; you can add your own Claude or OpenAI key for more.
- Which sports does it support?
- Basketball, flag football in 5v5 and 7v7, and youth soccer in 7v7 and 9v9.
- How do I draw a play?
- Either say it, for example "1 dribbles to the right wing, 5 sets the ball screen and rolls", or tap the field to drop players and drag from a player to draw what they do. The play animates right away.
- Does it work on a phone or tablet?
- Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers and can be installed to the home screen. Presenter mode goes full screen for AirPlay, Cast or screen mirroring.
- What happens to my data and API key?
- Your own key is kept in the browser and sent only to its provider. Player names stay on the device; the free AI receives only the X's and O's. Anonymous, cookieless usage counts are collected without storing IPs, and one ad banner may appear at the foot of the Plays list.
- Is it open source?
- Yes, it is MIT-licensed at github.com/mutaaf/chalk-talk and can be embedded in another app with its mount() API.
- Do I need an account to use Chalk Talk?
- No. It runs in a web browser with no signup, and player names stay on the device.
- Who is Chalk Talk for?
- Youth coaches in basketball, flag football (5v5 and 7v7) and youth soccer (7v7 and 9v9) who want to draw, animate and present plays. Players can also use CourtIQ / FieldIQ, a decision game whose nicknames and scores are kept on the device.
- Can I draw 7v7 and 9v9 youth soccer plays?
- Yes. Chalk Talk has youth soccer in 7v7 and 9v9 alongside basketball and flag football: say or sketch a set piece or movement and it animates on the field in light.
